More than 1.8 million New Yorkers have diabetes.
Public Housing
Although receiving clinical care is essential for people with diabetes, supporting improvements where these people live is equally as important . The Campaign will work with housing authorities across the State to promote diabetes prevention, screening, and management, thereby ensuring that public housing residents receive the clinical care they need. Most residents of public housing live well below the poverty line, tend to be in poorer health than other populations, and often have limited access to preventive and primary care. Yet, since these residents tend to stay in public housing for many years, diabetes efforts in these communities can yield long-term positive impacts.
